Alumni

Pony Club believes that our Alumni are our greatest achievement, and our investment toward assuring a strong, vibrant equestrian culture in the future.

Pony Club Alumni can be found all over the world, in show rings, veterinary practices, boardrooms and classrooms, gracing Olympic podiums or shoeing horses in your neighborhood barn. They are coaches, teachers, executives, law officers, parents and citizens just like you.

They are the people who are making a difference by giving back to their communities through the same volunteerism that was part of their formative journey. But they all share a common experience and that is the lifelong connection to the Pony Club family.

With clubs operating in 27 countries around the globe, Pony Club Alumni have friends and peers wherever they go. Many lifelong friendships have had their roots in the shared journey that is Pony Club.

Pony Club was great! Learning to ride and to take proper care of my pony at the same time was an excellent opportunity. Competed at various rallies, including the Nationals as a 'B Individual'. Was lucky enough to be the manager for the national team at the Interpacific Games in Japan - a chance of a lifetime! Thank-you Pony Club!My youngest daughter is now riding for the Trinity College School team in Port Hope, and loves it.

Laurie Taylor

London

1986-1990

I enjoyed everything I learned and did although I joined late (I was 16yrs) and was only able to achieve my B level before I was too old (it was 21 yrs back then) but would really like to give clinics for pony clubbers of various regions. I found when I was a member there was never enough riding (learning/teaching) events available to members. We had great monthly meetings on stable management but our riding was left up to our normal lessons. I don't know what clubs offer now but I will offer my services at a very reasonable cost to pony club branches, ie..cover my fuel costs, food, lodging (if required) and I am good to go. I have continued in the business over the years running stables and coaching riders in hunter/jumper and dressage from basic to competition levels. If you or your branch is interested pls contact me for any additional info required. I believe that I would find this a fun way to give back and help educate more young riders. Thanks, Laurie

Zoe Taylor

Cochrane Pony Club

1987-1995

I represented my club at numerous regional competions and nationals in tetrathalon. It was a great experience for me and I wish to get my young son involved as I learned alot and not all of it was only to do with horses. I have great memories which I would love to relive if it was possible. Overall it was a excellent experience and one I wish my son to be able to enjoy as well.

Barbara Tench (Nisbet)

Actually, back then it wasn't Canadian Pony Club; we were members of the British Horse Society

Jodi Thompson

My love of horses and animals has led me to become a veterinarian. I currently work in small animal practice but have 2 horses of my own.

Kaley Thompson

Clearwater Valley Pony Club

1995-2000

My best memory of Pony Club was our annual camp at Beck's. Our families would pack up our tents, trailers and our horses, and head out for a week of fun and learning. I loved taking my horse out onto the cross country course, and I was especially excited for the final event at the end of the week, where we would show off our skills. I also remember being the only member from our area to compete at the International Pony Club Spruce Meadows event. It was raining so hard and the ring was a disaster. I came away with a clear round, a ribbon, and a huge smile for having that opportunity. I will always appreciate the valuable information that I came away from Pony Club with. The friends. The opportunities. The time that I spent with my mom. I will never forget those years! I only wish that I had joined earlier! Congratulations Canadian Pony Club on your 75 years!

Tracy J. Thorbjornsen (Tidswell)

Mini Creek

1972-1986

I represented the Alberta Region at 3 National Rallies, Saskatoon, Ottawa St. Lawrence Valley and Millarville in the early 1980's. I am now a parent of 2 third generation Alberta Pony Clubbers and still see many of my former Pony Club friends at various activities throughout the area. As an alumni and parent I have attended the Millennium Conference in Toronto in August 2000 as well as chaperoned the 2003 Canadian Fox Hunting Team to Ireland. I have held the position of D.C. for both DeWinton Pony Club as well as High Country Pony Club. At the Regional level I have held the position of Membership Secretary as well I am currently a Visiting D.C. I am very proud to be a second generation Canadian Pony Clubber as my mother was the first person to enroll in the Alberta Region when it started as my Grandfather was 1st Secretary. She was in the first group to complete their 'A' level. She went on to hold the position of D.C. for Mini Creek Pony Club as well as co-chairman for the Millarville, Alberta National Rally in the mid 1980's.

I have fond memories of Pony Club. I competed in D and C Rallies, and attended the Quiz with my club.I was wondering if I would be able to obtain a copy of my C2 certificate somehow? I am in teacher's college, and I would like to have it for my portfolio. Many thanks,Jessica

Margot Togneri

Lake of Two Mountains Hunt PC or Vaudreuil County PC

70's

I have many fond memories of Pony Club, however most of all I remember Rhoda Simon Kerr as she was the engine of the Pony Club. We had great fun, hard work at Rallies and a very successful PPG team. I also have great memories of Barbara Kemp and Pam Dillingham, who also contributed a great deal to the Pony Club. They epitomized mentorship and volunteerism in the equestrian domain. There were others ofcourse as well (mother's of children in PC) they did so much for us. All these individuals are what I remember most. I wish to Thank them all. Margot

She's 7 and just passed her D test!
