The Patron of Canadian Pony Club is His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston.
In 1992, Canadian Pony Club was very honoured to receive the patronage of the Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn. We established a scholarship to be known as the Governor-General's Award of Excellence. The scholarship was awarded annually to deserving Pony Club members to help them continue their University education. From 1992 to 1998, there were 2 scholarships, given out to our highest level kids. In 1999, we instituted a third scholarship to reach more members at more levels.
As the years passed, we were very lucky to receive the patronage of The Right Honourable Romeo LeBlank, The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, and The Right Honourable Michaelle Jean. Each of the Governor-Generals sign a certificate, which is presented to the winners at the Annual General Meeting of Canadian Pony Club.
In 2012 the Governor-Generals ceased the practice of signing the certificates resulting in the name of the award being changed to Canadian Pony Club Award of Excellence.
