Alumni

Pony Club believes that our Alumni are our greatest achievement, and our investment toward assuring a strong, vibrant equestrian culture in the future.

Pony Club Alumni can be found all over the world, in show rings, veterinary practices, boardrooms and classrooms, gracing Olympic podiums or shoeing horses in your neighborhood barn. They are coaches, teachers, executives, law officers, parents and citizens just like you.

They are the people who are making a difference by giving back to their communities through the same volunteerism that was part of their formative journey. But they all share a common experience and that is the lifelong connection to the Pony Club family.

With clubs operating in 27 countries around the globe, Pony Club Alumni have friends and peers wherever they go. Many lifelong friendships have had their roots in the shared journey that is Pony Club.

Kristin Halsey (Johaneson)

Vernon and District PC

1983-1990

I attended National Tetrathlon in both Toronto (the same year as International England, Ireland, and the US attended) and Ottawa. What an amazing experience. Very well run competitions. I have many many special memories of Pony Club. I learned everything I know from PC as my parents were not and still are not 'horsey' people. I now am assistant DC of Medicine River PC and regional Tetrathlon Chair for Alberta Central PC.

Erin Ham

Toronto & North York

1983

Was member of the 1983 PPG team that won the Eastern Cdn Championships at the CNE (ending a 10 yr. drought), placed 3rd at the Cdn Championships in BC, and placed 2nd at the International Invitational at the RWF. Definitely my most memorable (and last) year in Pony Club.

Sloane Hammond

Langley Pony Club

1965-1979

I represented BC with Holly Wells at National Rally in Red Deer and have enjoyed many years of organizing, and teaching for Pony Clubs around the province. The Pony Club programme was such a great organization for me as a child and teenager that we started Sage and Sands Pony Club for the horse crazy young people in our small community of Ashcroft, BC. Our fantastic DC Sandy Agatiello was also a Pony Clubber on Vancouver Island.

Jennifer Hanson (Brett)

Rothesay

1984-1989

Deborah Harvey (Smith)

Eglinton

1973-78

Being a Pony Club member was a wonderful experience! I think I spent more time in the stalls and in the tack room than on the back of a horse. One of the members of the stable staff took me under his wing early on and taught me so much. He was like a grandfather to me. The Junior International Horse Show was held at the club I rode at and I was a member of the grooming team that won the groom's award -- all because of what I learned as a Pony Club member.

Linda Hasmatali (Hauck)

Leitchroft/Citation

1977-1984

Participated in Eventing Rallies, quiz and Tretathelon.

Jeff Haver

Lake of Two Mountains

1967-1973

Carol Hawkins (Urquhart)

Eglinton

1979-1983

I guess the thing I enjoyed most about pony club was studying for the stable management portion of the testing levels. I rode the school horses at Eglinton Equestrian Club since I didn't have my own horse but was determined that one day, I would own my own horse and when I did, I was going to know exactly how to look after it! Next to testing, my most memorable experience was attending C Rally at Mohawk Raceway both as a groom and as a rider. Staying in the barns was awesome along with being part of a team and meeting other pony clubbers from across the region. I recall being taken to a local conservation area for a swim time on Thursday after moving in then having grooms competitions like taking a bridle apart and racing to put it back together again. Then there was the huge water fight on Saturday evening after dinner between all the clubs. I learned so much over those weekends.

Irene Hecht (Stork)

Red Deer Pony Club

1974 to ???

I was ten when my sister and I joined Red Deer Pony Club. Robert and Joan Coates owned the site where Red Deer Pony Club was held which is still the same location as the present Red Deer Pony Club today. At Alhambra Stables near Red Deer. My memories of my Pony Club years are filled with great experiences of friendship, learning about horses and the sport. I attended alot of Pony Club camps and events in my Pony Club years. I have met many horse friends and aquaintances in my years in Pony club who I still see today. We are now parents with kids in Pony Club and it feels like we have completed a big circle. This past August, I was walking the cross country course with my daughter and thinking back 30 years ago when I walked the cross country course. I think its wonderful that Pony club and Eventing is still going after all these years....Long live Pony Club and Equestrian Sports !!!

I remember competing in rally and taking home every trophy or award possible. It is still my dad favorite story to tell at horse shows (10 years later)

Catriona Hunter (Findlay)

Ottawa Valley Hunt

1980-1985

I wish I'd had the opportunity to be in pony club longer and do more. I loved rally and quiz the most of all the activities I got to participate in. I believe in this great organization so much I am now entering my 20th as an adult volunteer. My 8 year old daughter is about to enter her 3rd year. She loves it as much as I did and goes to everything she possibly can.

Bonnie Hyde

1996-1998

comments: I believe every child should have the opportunity to have an equine friend. Pony Club gives structure to learning, responsiblity, and fun. As we settle into our new home in Alberta, I would love to start up a Pony Club in Grande Prairie. I was the D.C. for the club in Thunder Bay, Ontario which fall under the Manitoba Pony Club, because of geographical reasons. I loved the program and saw the children grow to love and enjoy horses. Unfortunately do to a family crisis I had resigned. But the couple of years I was involved where the best!
