Key Terms

Following you will find a short list of acronyms, abbreviations and terms you may hear frequently as you become involved with this organization. It has its own lingo that may sound like gibberish to the uninitiated but makes great sense once you become comfortable with it.

Term Meaning
CPC Canadian Pony Club
PC Pony Club
EC Equestrian Canada (Canada's governing body on general equestrian programming)
PSO Provincial Sport Organization (Provincial governing body on general equestrian programming)
PPG's Prince Phillip Games: mounted games of skill Read more
Dressage Precision riding movements on horseback Read more
Show Jumping Performance jumping at varying heights Read more
Tetrathalon (Tet) A four discipline event encompassing riding, swimming, running and shooting Read more
Rally A combined activity using stable management, riding and teamwork skills Read more
Levels The designation by which a member's skill set is determined. Established by testing. More information on levels and testing is available in the Education & Testing section of this website Read more
Coach An instructor
Certified Coach An instructor who has passed national standards in coaching knowledge and safety
IOB Instructor of Beginners: a certified instructor working on their coaching certificate
HH Hands High: a 4" measurement used in determining the height of a horse or pony
Pony An equine not exceeding the height of 14.2 HH
Horse An equine over the height of 14.2 HH
Tack The saddle, bridle and other equipment used in riding a horse/pony
Stall The space a horse lives in within its barn or stable
Paddock The fenced in area where the horse is contained outside the stable
Green Reference to a horse or rider who is limited in training/experience
Farrier Technician who looks after horses foot care and shoeing
Vet Veterinarian, an animal doctor who looks after our horses
EVERY RIDE, EVERY TIME A reference to our policy of wearing properly certified helmet at all times while mounted
