In Memoriam - Cindy Reid

Feb 1, 2025

In Memoriam - Cindy Reid

IN MEMORIAM - It is with great sadness that the Canadian Pony Club announces the passing of Cindy Reid. Cindy, and her mother, Betty (1921-2016), were founding members of the Elliot Lake (Ontario) branch of the Canadian Pony Club in the early 1980s.

Cindy is fondly remembered by her former students who were fortunate to have her as a teacher, mentor, and friend. Cindy was an avid animal lover, an NCCP certified equestrian coach, an artist, and a floral designer. She shared her love of horses with all she encountered at the Sheriff Lake Riding Club and the Elliot Lake Pony Club, going above and beyond to bring the full Pony Club experience to this small community in Central Ontario. In addition to teaching, Cindy arranged the leasing of horses, facilitated horse shows and clinics, designed courses, and organized and coached a team of students to complete in the Canadian Pony Club Quiz Competition in Toronto. She even managed to bring the RCMP Musical Ride to Elliot Lake on one occasion.

The fact that Cindy was still in touch with many of the riders and their families 40+ years later is a testament to her tremendous and enduring impact. Those who she touched are left with many warm and happy memories, and imagine that Cindy is riding into the distance atop her beautiful chestnut gelding, Stamir.

Our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
