Captain and Groom at Rally 2004
Rally is now including a starter division!!! Rally is a competition similar to a Horse Trials or 3 Day Eventing, with rider and horse completing three phases: Dressage, Cross Country (over permanent jumps) and Stadium (like Show Jumping, above). Rally is held as a competition between teams. Each club sends a team consisting of riders (Grooms and Captains).  All team members are judged over the 4 day competition on their horse care, stable management and ability to WORK AS A TEAM.
The riders can also compete for individual awards and their marks are added on for a cumulative team score through their performance in the dressage, cross country and stadium jumping phases.  Horses are stabled on site for the duration of the Rally, and competitors also stay on site.  There are 3 different Rally's each year (sometimes combined):-

(1)  D-Rally - 3 riders, 2 or 3 grooms, at D level and Captain a C or higher.  Riders can now compete at starter levels !.

(2)  ABC Rally - 2 riders, A-C level as is the Captain.  1 Groom can be any level but is generally A, B, or C.  Riders can compete at the level they have been competing at locally and have qualified on. How Do You Qualify? We have made some changes to the qualifying criteria: In order to qualify for Rally a rider must participate in one event and four cross country schooling/clinic days or two events and two cross country schooling/clinic days on the horse and at the height intending to compete at Rally. If they qualified for Rally the previous year and are riding the same horse at the same level then only two cross country schooling/clinic days are required. There are no restrictions on the height riders compete at, except D riders have the option of Starter Division, as long as they have not evented at a higher level on the same horse. This is to occur after rally from the previous year.

(3)  National Rally - individuals are selected from a Pony Club Region to be sent to compete against Pony Club members from across Canada.  2 Riders, and Captain usually from A or B level, although occasionally a C2 may be chosen.  C level and above Training Level.
If National Rally is in Western Canada, riders bring their own horses.  If in Eastern Canada, riders compete on borrowed horses.
Riders can compete at Pre Training, Training and Pre Liminary levels..

INTER-PACIFIC RALLY:-

Inter-Pacific Rally, happens every 2 years,  is an International Pony Club competition.  Here the Pacific Rim countries that have Pony Clubs each send a team of their top riders to compete in a competition(usually a 3 day event)
against those riders sent by the other countries.  In addition to the competition, riders usually spend about a month travelling and touring that part of the world (each year a different Pacific Rim Country hosts the competition).  All riders compete on borrowed horses.  Competitors generally ride at the Training level of 3'3"/Preliminary level 3''7".
