Notes from the Editor: Sandy Zelmer

We are trying a new format for getting information to our members. This shorter version of The Pony Express will come out frequently and will be copied by the DC of each club for distribution. (Please DCs J). It will also be on the WOR web site (thanks Crawford!).

Regular features may include:
  • Regional news and upcoming events - submit anything you wish to advertise.
  • Education - please forward any good items you have to include.
  • Please, please, - send us information on clinics/educational events in your area.
  • Classified – a good way to recycle ponies, clothes, tack etc.
  • History of some of the older clubs? Information on some of our members who are doing something out of the ordinary? Question/Answer section?
  • Results of all WOR PC events.
  • Anything else that you, that's right, you wish to send me. Pictures welcome!
  • This will only be as good as you support it – otherwise it will be all Zelmer and Albion because they are close enough to throttle for information!!! Please let this be a means of communication for all clubs and all members! Send stuff!!!!

A word from our Regional Chair: Cathy Miller

A new year, a new newsletter – a sincere “thank you” to Sandy Zelmer for this initiative. As your new Regional Chair I am indeed lucky to have the support and guidance of such a talented and hard-working group of Branch representatives, Discipline chairs and Regional Executive. In addition to our new Communications/Education chair (Sandy) I am delighted to announce that LeeAnne Bell of Glen Highlands is our new A/B/C Rally Chair. We are only lacking a PPG Chair apprentice to work with Alison Rainford – please, parents of keen games players, give this chance to get involved serious consideration.

On a more personal note, I want to take this opportunity to ask you to go out and give your horse and/or pony a hug today. On Monday, January 27, 2003 I had to bid farewell to my old friend Dancer. We came together almost exactly 23 years ago and he has been a significant part of my life ever since. A beautiful, 16 hand chestnut thoroughbred gelding, Dancer was my partner in Hunter/Jumper, Eventing, Dressage, Trail Riding and just plain “horsing around”. He has left me with an infinite number of wonderful memories and I truly believe that I am a better person because of my relationship with him.

  • Be sure to check the WOR and the CPC websites to be up to date!
  • The Governor General's awards have been announced! Congratulations to Bronwen Jones of the Esquesing Pony Club and Jennifer Zelmer of the Albion Pony Club. Both girls get a $500 scholarship towards their education.
  • WOR's Jen Zelmer will be going to Australia on the Canadian Pony Club Inter-pacific Team. Five members are selected from across Canada and WOR has had a successful candidate 3 years in a row now. Donations and items for a silent auction will be gratefully accepted at Regional meetings or by calling 905-936-2658
  • All Clubs are reminded of the Youth Forum on the web site where members can air their views and make suggestions. Contact Crawford at jcdales@cogeco.ca or jenzelmer@hotmail.com if you need more info.
  • The Pony Club Tack and Clothing Sale will be held at Quiz May 3rd. Bring all your horse-related items that you have outgrown, don't need, or are tired of. Be sure to label them with your name, your club and your price. WOR takes 10% to support our kids, and the rest is your profit! If you need riding clothes, boots, tack or other assorted riding equipment, bring your checkbook or cash, we can't take credit or debit cards.
