WESTERN ONTARIO REGION DRESSAGE

2011 is an exciting year for Dressage in Western Ontario. 2010 we saw a record turnout for our Regional Dressage competition and we are hoping to see the same kind of support this year. In addition to that, WOR is hosting the National Dressage competition. The National Dressage competition will be held August 12 – 14th at the Ancaster Fairgrounds where around 50 competitors from across Canada will compete in divisions from Starter to FEI Junior.

We have seen the interest in dressage pick up in the Western Ontario Region in recent years. Some of the kids focus solely on dressage as their main discipline while others understand the importance of schooling their horses correctly on the flat to create a supple and balanced mount for their jumping events. Regardless, dressage should play an important part in all of your training activities.

Last year we saw a record number of entries from Entry up to Second level. Unfortunately, our event was rained out but we were able to finish Entry to Pre-Training divisions on the original date and Training to Second Level in a second date in September. We are grateful to have a fantastic venue that has an indoor arena that allowed us to finish the first event late into the evening … after a substantial amount of rain. Along with a great venue, great judges and volunteers to help pull this off is also essential … and we have both!

This year’s Regional Dressage event is July 17th, 2011 @ Ancaster Fairgrounds. The Ancaster Fairground is the typical venue for our Regional Dressage and Show Jumping events but this year’s event will switch things up a bit by moving Dressage to Sunday to allow for preparation and jump setup on Friday night.

Be sure to keep working over the winter / spring months to make a supple and balanced horse to take you into the 2011 show season … but most of all remember to have fun doing it.
