Zone PPG Championships, July 21st, 2004

Congratulations to the SLOV combined team who had an amazing 2nd place finish at the Ontario PPG Zone Championships, which were held north of Port Perry, Ontario. This team had only played together three times (two practices and regionals), so we were all very pleased at their placing.

Good luck to the 1st place team from Mill Ridge (awesome riders and ponies), Ontario as they get ready for Nationals in Vancouver! The team from Ottawa Valley Hunt finished in 6th place. A complete list of teams and scores will be posted to the SLOV website shortly.

Appreciation and thanks to Janet Heaslip for organizing and coaching our great riders! Thanks as well to Terry Viewig for trailering and the use of Indy and Trigger!

Team members:

and Kyla McTaggart (Land O'Lakes) helped out when a 5th team member was needed.

Regional PPGs, July 1st, 2004

Melissa Bayer on Rosy

After some shuffling of dates, our Regional PPG Finals were held on Thursday, July 1st. 31 riders from seven Branches took part at the A, B and C levels. We had no Masters teams entered this year. Two teams competed at the A level with the mixed team of Alex Ross and Jordan Dunklin from Temperance Lake P.C., Jessica Hobin from Appleton P.C. and Chelsea Magladry from United Co. P.C. coming in first, with the Ottawa Valley Hunt P.C. team placing second. These two teams qualified to go on to the Zone finals against teams from Central Ontario and Western Ontario.

We also had two teams at the B level with the Appleton/Land O'Lakes P.C. team of Melissa Bayer, Jeannette Gladwin, Chelsea Hill and Kyla McTaggart winning out over the Ottawa Valley Hunt P.C's B team. At the C level we managed to have three teams. This time, the mixed team from Temperance Lake and Oxford Downs P.C. won the competition over the teams from Appleton P.C. and Ottawa Valley Hunt P.C. The winning team consisted of Brittany Dunklin, Megan Morrison and Allie Wilson of Temperance Lake and Amy Claridge from Oxford Downs P.C.

Unfortunately a terrific thunderstorm forced the cancellation of the afternoon's scramble competition, much to the disappointment of the Valley Pines riders who had traveled down especially for that. We'll have to try to organize the weather better next time.

Thank you to all the parents and siblings who helped out during the day and to Eleanor Lorden who was our announcer.
