Show Jumping

January 2009

Hello All,

Neither Krystl or myself has anything of major import to pass on to everyone. We are looking at dates for championships and still feel that spring would be best and are looking at May 30. It would be a great warm-up to the following weekend trophy show for anyone going. I am trying to find out when Moose Jaw is running their show because they are usually a spring one as well. If we can avoid overlapping it makes much more sense and gives members more opportunities.

I would really like to get the issue of subsidies settled. I feel very strongly that the decision to give a grant should be made once a year. This way we have a better idea of numbers and how much we have to spread around.

See you all on Saturday.

November 2008

This year there has been quite a bit planned through showjumping for the the region.

In March we had two clinics planned in two separate venues (and cities) with Jorg Muenzner from Germany. March 24 - 26 he was in Saskatoon at two different barns and March 27 - 29 he was in Regina. Pony Club members were offered first spots and were given a $50.00 subsidy for participating in this top notch clinic with this Austrian Olympic silver medal winner. His fee was $325.00 per person and we were lucky enough to have not one of the three barns charge arena fees. This clinic was open to D2 and up. There were 16 participants in Saskatoon and 16 participants in Regina.

On May 24 Pony Club Regional Championships were held at Pelmac Stables. It was a beautiful sunny day and our members, judging from the camaraderie and smiley faces, seemed to have a very good time. It was great that Selena from Regina travelled all the way to Saskatoon to attend for the day. The day started with a brief rough patch when our judge decided to amend our course but went great from there.

On May 25 regional showjumping organized a course design clinic with Lotte Kingsmill at Pelmac Stable. Each participant was charged $10.00 to cover lunch and the rest was subsidized with regional showjumping funds. Only 10 members participated. Lotte's fee was $250.00 for the day plus 60.00 mileage.

In September from the 12-14 the region brought in Allan Matheson from Brandon, Manitoba for a showjumping clinic. It was open to all members that were capable of getting around a stadium course. This clinic stretched over three facilities. One group of 5 at Kingskettle, one group of six at E and J, and a group of 6 and a group of 4 at Pelmac Stables. Again we were fortunate to not have any facility fees. Allan charged us 150.00 per member plus mileage. Members were given a 25.00 subsidy toward this clinic.

There are a couple of issues to be addressed.

Is it worth while to continue to organize events and spend regional funds when so few members attend?

Can we make an effort to not organize club level events when a regional event of any type is planned?

Are our members not aware that regional championships should be considered show level and should come dressed appropriately?

Showjumping Report - February 2008

Championships have been set for Saturday May 24, 2008 at
Pelmac Stables. I have booked Lotte Kingsmill as our judge.
Paperwork has been submitted to have our event considered a
heritage point show again as requested. Mark it on your calendar and
I hope we have a bigger turnout than last year.

I have booked Jorg to come to Saskatoon for three days over Easter
for a showjumping clinic. If anyone has any members wishing to
participate please let me know. I have been organizing this clinic in
conjunction with Regina and Alberta. Regina has been told they can
host this clinic at Rhonda Seigo’s place depending on date. Alberta is
looking a booking a facility in Red Deer to also host three days.

I have talked about bringing Jorg in for a pony club clinic. How many
members would need to participate before we can consider subsidizing
our members for participating. It has not worked to have him come
here for six days and conduct a clinic at two separate facilities in town.

I would also like to know if I should try a course design clinic again.
We had very small turnouts the last two times but each time the
lecture was very well received. Lotte did an excellent job of explaining
the business to us.
