News From the National Office
Issue 32, April, 2010

by Val Crowe, CPC National Administrator

First of all, I must apologize for taking so long to get another issue of News from National up on the Web Site. As you all know, 2009 was the 75th Anniversary of Canadian Pony Club, which made for a very busy year.
  • 75th Anniversary
The 75th Anniversary was very successful. We hosted the International Mounted Games Exchange and the International Meetings in Calgary in July. Branches and Regions around the country celebrated with horse shows and cakes and all kinds of activities. The Ride for 75 amassed enough km to travel to every Pony Club country in the world. Canadian Pony Club Yearbook – I have to admit that I was a little disappointed in the reception that the 75th Anniversary Yearbook received. Those who saw it seemed to truly like it but we did not sell out as I had hoped. You can still purchase a copy from the Supply Office.
    $28.00
75th Badge If anyone in your Branch did not receive a 75th Anniversary Badge, they are still available from the National Office at no charge.

Toronto, November 11-15 The conferences and the Banquet all went over very well. It was a chance to renew acquaintances and make new friends. The Discipline Chairs from every Region met and updated their rule books and made up a five year rotation for each discipline.

  • Good News
The fee increase slated for 2011 has been cancelled and head fees will remain at $70 for at least one more year. If we can continue to increase our membership, we may not have to raise fees for several years.

  • New Rules
New 2010 Rule Books for Rally, Show Jumping, Dressage, Tetrathlon, PPG and Quiz are all posted on the web site in Downloads.

  • Testing Update
The A/B and C/D Testing Procedures have been revised and are on the web site. There is a new C/D Examiner's Handbook, as well as a revised A/B Examiner's Handbook, which members will find very helpful when trying to figure out what to study for each level.

Good news for Affiliates – Fees for A tests will be the same as for Active Members and the travel grants that have been in place for Active Members “ A” Tests will now be available for Affiliates as well.

Streaming – members will now be able to take a flat stream starting after C1 and a jumping stream after C2. All the new rules and worksheets will be available on the web. Click here to see a copy of the Streaming Rules.

  • National Rally
This year, BCLM is hosting the first National Rally since Manitoba hosted in 2001. It will be held at the Maple Ridge Equi-Sport Centre in Maple Ridge, BC from August 5-8. Check out the web site or contact your Rally Chair for more information.

  • International Quiz
Canada is hosting the International Quiz from October 2 – October 11 in Nova Scotia and PEI. As both Britain and Ireland cannot attend this year, we will have 2 teams from the USPC and 2 teams from the CPC. The tour will start in Truro and will end up at National Quiz in Halifax. Check the web site for application forms.

  • Youth Directors
The term for the National Youth Director for the West is finished at the end of this year. All Regions from Manitoba west to BC are invited to submit one name for the position. The election will be held in November with the winner starting their term on January 1, 2011. The candidate must be 18 by January 1 but may be 17 at the time of the election.

  • New Promotional Materials
Take a look at the main page of the web site and you will see four new banners that have been designed for CPC by Tricia Cooney of BCIN. These stand on the floor and are a great advertisement for Pony Club. Regions are free to borrow them for upcoming events. Tricia is also working on new posters and brochures that will be downloadable to help you with advertising and fund raising.

  • CPC Week
The Board of Directors has officially designated July 1 – July 8 to be Canadian Pony Club Week in Canada. This is an ideal time for Branches and Regions to organize special events and promote Pony Club in your area. If you have special plans for this week, send them along to the National Office and we will post them on the Web Calendar.

  • Centre Memberships
The Board has passed some addition materials for Centres and we hope to be ready to accept Centre members in September.

  • Governor-General's Scholarships
The deadline for the 2010 applications will be December 15, 2010.
