Quarry Ridge Pony Club is located in the Southern Interlake, just north of Winnipeg on Highway #7. We are privileged to be able to call Quarry Ridge Farms our “home” and deliver our program from this location.

Our club colour is navy blue and we have a membership of twenty-two, ranging in ages from 7 to 22, which includes one Affiliate member. The Canadian Pony Club program offers a very thorough, in-depth stable management and riding program. QRPC is able to offer a quality stable management program that allows the member a “hands-on” approach to reinforce their knowledge on the care and maintenance of the horse. The stable management lessons are complimented with weekly riding lessons. Both the stable management and riding lessons continue through the winter months.

Our D.C., Karen MacLean, coordinates the stable management lessons along with assistance from our senior members who are at B, C1 and C levels. Members and their horses improve their riding skills, with weekly lessons, instructed by Catherine McCullagh.

Catherine, along with her husband and two boys, own and operate Quarry Ridge Farms. She has been active in equestrian sports since childhood, competed at Spruce Meadows as a junior rider and is a past member of Manitoba Pony Club herself. Catherine has also volunteered her time to Manitoba Pony Club in many capacities. Along with opening her facility to QRPC, she currently is co-coordinator of MPC’s Mock Rally and is a past member of MPC’s Regional Committee (Show Jumping Chair).

Quarry Ridge Pony Club offers horsemanship and riding lessons on Thursday evenings and Sundays. Throughout the year, we organize events such as mounted games, clinics, schooling shows, festive celebrations, (Halloween costume parties for both horse and rider, Christmas sleigh ride/dinner, glow bowling etc.). This allows our club to come together as one, members, parents and siblings! We also enjoy being together as a club at the Regional Awards Banquet in November, Regional Quiz in the Spring, or MPC’s annual summer camp held in July.

Quarry Ridge Pony Club operates from October through to April/May of the following year. Our riders are able to continue with their riding through the winter thanks to the lovely facility available (arena/enclosed breezeway to barn/heated viewing room). At times, here in Manitoba, it’s just too cold to ride, so when the mercury dips too low, we organize activities like a group tack cleaning day, invite equine speakers to enhance our learning experience, or have a fun session, challenging our theory knowledge by playing Quiz activities.

Due to our partnership with Quarry Ridge Farms, we are able to offer the Canadian Pony Club program to any youth eager to learn how to care for, and ride, horses. School horses are available for lessons, which allows those youth who do not own their own horse, to enjoy and explore the world of horses. Parents and visitors can watch their child’s riding lesson from the heated viewing room, or on the risers in the arena.

Our riders are offered the opportunity to apply their skills to many disciplines, eg. hunter jumper, dressage, stadium jumping and eventing (cross country). Schooling shows take place throughout the season.
