Uxbridge-Scugog "Eh" Team Win National Games Championships

The Uxbridge-Scugog "Eh" team won the Canadian Prince Philip Games "A" championships held September 1-2 near Edmonton. The win gives the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club a clean sweep of the Canadian games championships at the Pony Club level, since the Uxbridge-Scugog "Black & White" team won the Masters division championship in Nova Scotia in August. Uxbridge-Scugog teams also won both championships in 2006.

Second place went to a mixed team from the Alberta North Region, with the Vancouver Pony Club finishing third, and the Strathcona Pony Club from Edmonton in fourth.

The members of the "Eh" team are James and Sean Cruikshanks, Chelsea Geer, Stephen Hall and Jane Stephenson, coached by Michelle Cruikshanks. Because of an injury to Ms Stephenson, the other four riders had to ride every race - 20 games, five per session. They faced the challenge straight on, and after the first two sessions, had a mere two point lead over one of the local teams. However, they hit their stride in the afternoon sessions, and won seven out of ten races during this time - enough to widen the gap over the mixed Alberta North team to seven points. In all, the Uxbridge-Scugog team won 11 of 20 races, and finished second in another four - an exceptionally strong performance.

The "A" level is for competitors up to 14 years old as of January 1. Masters players may be 15-21 years old as of January 1.
