Here are results for the Central Ontario Regional Dressage Finals, plus a third qualifier show for the Central Canada Zone Championships. This competition took place on Saturday, August 13 at Cedarlane Equestrian Centre, near Douro, Ontario. Selection for the Central Ontario Dressage team, which will compete against teams from the Western Ontario and St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions, will be based on scores achieved at this meet and two previous competitions. This year, the Central Canadian Zone Championships are being hosted by the Western Ontario Region on August 20-21. We present highlights followed by details.
Regional Finals
The highest level in this show, Second Level, had two divisions. Daina Brown of the Kawartha Pony Club rode her horse Moon Walker in Division B, comprising Tests 3 and 4. She placed first in Test 3 and second in Test 4, riding "against the book." Johanna McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club rode Millgate Braveheart to first place finishes in both Second Level Test 1 and Test 2, and in the Second Level Freestyle class, again riding "against the book."
In the First Level competition, the order of finish was the same for both Test 1 and Test 2. The winner and Division Champion was Jessie Ball of the Victoria Pony Club riding Corona's Kiowa. Second place and Division Reserve went to Kayla Neil of the Durham Pony Club on Adara, with Jennifer McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club third in both classes on Colwyn Tegan. Ms. McKeen and Colwyn Tegan did win the First Level Freestyle class.
In the Training Division, Rachel Welsh of the Oshawa Pony Club won the Test 2 class on Pippi, with Madison Wilks of the Durham Pony Club second on Mega Cool and Whitney Brennan of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club third on Karoo. In the Test 3 class, Ms. Welsh and Ms. Wilks again placed first and second, with third place in this class going to Samantha MacDonald, another Uxbridge-Scugog rider, on Heart of Gold. Ms. Welsh was Training Division Champion with Ms. Wilks the Reserve. Samantha MacDonald won the Training Freestyle class, with Whitney Brennan second. These two teamed up to win the Training Pas de Deux competition.
Jennifer McKeen, this time riding Annie, won the Pre-Training Test 1 Class, with Rebecca Adrian of the Kawartha Pony Club on Narhan's Gift and Kylie Figueira of the Victoria Pony Club on Baltimore tied for second place. In Pre-Training Test 2, the winner was Ms. Figueira, with Erin Thompson of the Oshawa Pony Club second on Everyone Loves Lily and Ms McKeen third. The Pre-Training champion was Jennifer McKeen, with Kylie Figueira the Reserve. There was no freestyle competition at the Pre-Training level.
In the Starter Division, the Test 1 class was won by Michaela Brown of the Kawartha Pony Club riding Cavillier. There was a tie for second place btween Rachel Goodman of the Whitchurch Pony Club aboard Ladybug, and Maddy Lang of the King Pony Club on Summit. In Test 2, the winner was Nikki Ince of King riding Leif Alaric, with Ms. Goodman second and Ms. Brown third. Ms. Brown was Starter Division Champion with Ms. Goodman the Reserve. Ms. Welsh won the Starter Freestyle with second place going to Maxime Weiss of the King Pony Club riding Moonlight. The Starter Pas de Deux was won by a team comprising Ms. Weiss and Emily Banks-Ng, also of King, riding Fat Chance; Ms. Lang and Ms. Ince teamed up for second place. These four King riders also entered as a Drill Team, and placed first riding "against the book."
Ms. Banks-Ng and Fat Chance won the Entry Division Test 1, with second place going to Jennifer Pett of the Victoria Pony Club riding Thunder. Hilary Howran of the Kawartha Pony Club placed third on Mackeeba. In Test 2, the winner was Ms. Howran, with Ms. Weiss and Ms. Banks-Ng tied for second. Ms. Banks-Ng was Entry Champion with Ms. Howran the Reserve. There was no freestyle competition for Entry riders, though, as seen above, some of them competed in the Starter freestyle classes.
Qualifier
Daina Brown was the only Second Level entry, again riding Moon Walker. This time her scores were good enough for second in Test 3 and fourth in Test 4.
Jessie Ball and Corona's Kiowa placed first in First Level Test 1 and second in Test 2. Jennifer McKeen and Colwyn Tegan placed first in the First Level Freestyle.
Grace Walker of the Northumberland Pony Club won both the Training Level Test 2 and Test 3 classes riding Lucky #7.
In the Pre-Training Division, the order of finish was the same for both Test 1 and Test 2. Jennifer McKeen and Annie placed first, with Jodi Hunsley of the Durham Pony Club second on Kenny, and Hilary Howran third with Mackeeba.
Rachel Goodman and Ladybug won the Starter Test 1 class, with Michaela Brown and Cavillier second and Maddy Lang third aboard Summit. In the Starter Test 2 competition, Ms. Goodman and Ms. Brown again finished first and second, with third place this time going to Janene Howran of the Kawartha Pony Club on Zia's Tattered Lace.
Emily Banks-Ng and Fat Chance won the Entry Level Test 1 class in the Qualifier, with second place going to Alyssa Stavrakos of the Durham Pony Club on Little Dynamite and Brigid Goulem of the Kawartha Pony Club taking third aboard Precious Poco. In Test 2, Ms. Stavrakos finished first and Ms. Goulem second, with no third place awarded.
