Central Ontario Region First Dressage Qualifier Results

Here are the placings at the first Central Ontario Region of Pony Club dressage qualifier for the Central Canadian Zone Dressage Championships, held on Sunday, May 22, hosted by the Kawartha Pony Club. Selection for the Central Ontario Dressage team, which will compete against teams from the Western Ontario and St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions, will be based on scores achieved at this meet, another qualifier hosted by the Victoria Pony Club on July 10, a third qualifier at Cedarlane on August 13, and also at recognized dressage competitions not sponsored by Pony Club. This year, the Central Canadian Zone Championships are being hosted by the Western Ontario Region on August 20-21. Here are highlight results, with placings to sixth following.

At the highest level for this show, Second Level, there was only one entry, Johanna McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club riding Millgate Braveheart. She rode "against the book" and achieved scores high enough for first place in Test 2 and third place in Test 1.

In the First Level, the winner of both the Test 1 and Test 2 classes was Katie Stephenson of the Maple Pony Club riding Tybalt. Kayla Neil of the Durham Pony Club placed second in both tests aboard Adara. Third place in Test 1 went to Jennifer McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club on Colwyn Tegan, and in Test 2 third place went to Jessie Ball of the Victoria Pony Club riding Corona's Kiowa.

Samantha MacDonald of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club was the winner of the Training Level Test 2 competition on Heart of Gold, with Rachel Welch of the Oshawa Pony Club second riding Pippi Longstocking, and Madison Wilks of the Durham Pony Club third riding Mega Cool. In the Training Level Test 1 class, Rachel Welch and Pippi Longstocking took the honours. Madison Wilks and Mega Cool finished second, and Christy Chamney of the Maple Pony Club was third on My Turn.

The Pre-Training Test 2 class was won by Jennifer McKeen, this time riding Annie. Second place went to another Oshawa Pony Club entry, Erin Thompson aboard Everyone Loves Lily. In third place was Jenna Scott of the Durham Pony Club, on Timbit. In the Pre-Training Level Test 1 class, Emily Boyce of the Maple Pony Club took top honours on Faolin Ruadh, with Erin Thompson again second. Third place went to Kylie Figueira of the Victoria Pony Club riding Baltimore.

In Starter Test 2, first place went to Jennifer Nason of the Maple Pony Club riding A Wee Bit Tipsy. Nikki Ince of the King Pony Club took second place aboard Leif Alaric. Third place went to another King entry, Maddy Lang riding Summit. Aleks Burke of the Maple Pony Club won the Starter Test 1 class riding Jet. Sarah Nason, also of Maple, took second spot on Dillon, with Lindsay Rice of the Simcoe Pony Club third aboard Dallas.

In the Entry Level Test 2 class, the winner was Maxime Weiss of the King Pony Club riding Moonlight. In second place was Jennifer Pett of the Victoria Pony Club riding Thunder, with Katelyn Wardlaw of the Maple Pony Club third on Tootles. Jennifer Pett and Thunder won the Entry Level Test 1, with Hilary Howran of the Kawartha Pony Club second riding MacKeeba, and another Kawartha rider, Brigid Goulem, third on Precious Poco.

This show offered several freestyle classes, which feature dressage performed to music.

In the Second Level Freestyle class, Johanna McKeen was again the only entry, but this time her score was good enough only for second place.

Stephanie Rutherford of the Baltimore Hills Pony Club won the First Level Freestyle class riding Falkenfels, with Jessie Ball and Corona's Kiowa second.

In the Training Freestyle class, Samantha MacDonald and Heart of Gold took first place, with Whitney Brennan of Uxbridge-Scugog second riding Karoo, and Sophie Kalpin of the Maple Pony Club third on Shimmer.

Jenny Isaacs of the Maple Pony Club won the Starter Freestyle class on Vincent Van Go Go, with second place going to Maxime Weiss and Moonlight, and third place to Grace Loeppky of Maple riding Harlequin.

The Uxbridge-Scugog team of Whitney Brennan and Samantha MacDonald won the Training Pas de Deux competition. In the Starter Pas de Deux, the Maple team of Aleks Burke and Jennifer Nason took first place. Second went to another Maple team, Emily Mitchell on Lady Marmalade and Emily Boyce, again on Faolin Ruadh. King's duo of Maddy Lang and Nikki Ince took third spot.

The Maple Pony Club sent out two Starter Quadrille teams. The team of Loeppky, Hicks, Isaacs and Nason were first, and second spot went to the team of Kojola, Schlechter, Wardlaw and Kalpin.
