Central Ontario Prince Philip Games Meet #2 Results

The Central Ontario Region of Pony Club held its second Prince Philip Games meet of the season on June 13, at Durward Farm north of Port Perry. Highlight results are shown below, followed by the complete order of finish and cumulative standings.

In the A division, a mixed team with members from the Durham, Pine Ridge, Northwoods, Temiskaming and Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Clubs, calling itself the "Left Over Riff-Raff," took first place. The Uxbridge-Scugog "Misfits" were second and another Uxbridge-Scugog team, the "Hot Tamales," finished third.

Kawartha Pony Club's Team 1 took first in the B division, with Durham second and Victoria third.

Maple won the C division, with Durham second and Simcoe third; Simcoe finished with the same number of points as a mixed Victoria-Temiskaming team, but won a tie-breaking race.

In the Masters Games, for players 15 and older, the Uxbridge-Scugog "Cowboys" tied for first place points with the Temiskaming-Durham "Rowdies" and won the tie-breaker. Third place went to a mixed team with members from the Uxbridge-Scugog and Pine Ridge Pony Clubs, calling itself "Charlie's Angels."

The Prince Philip Cup Games are a team competition played by Pony Clubs around the world. The Games are played by teams of five riders and five ponies, four of which participate in each game. All of the Games are variations on the relay race, and all are great fun for players and spectators alike. In some races, riders have to vault off of and onto their ponies.

The next meet will be the Regional Finals on July 4. Points accumulate over the three meets, and competition at all levels is very close. The Regional A and Masters winners go on to play for the Central Canada Zone Championship against teams from the Western Ontario and Saint Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions on July 21. The two top Eastern Canadian A level teams then play against Western Canadian representatives for the National Championship, which alternates between Eastern and Western Canada. This year, it is Western Canada's turn, with the Prairie Zone hosting the event in Alberta (date and place to be set). There is also a National Masters Championship, which will be hosted by the British Columbia Islands Region in the Pacific Zone (date and place to be set).
