Here are highlight placings at the third and final Central Ontario Region of Pony Club dressage qualifier, which took place at Killusty Farm near Fenelon Falls on Sunday, July 11. Details follow the highlights. Selection for the Central Ontario team, which will compete against teams from the Western Ontario and St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions, will be based on scores at this meet and two earlier qualifiers. This year, the Central Canada Zone Championships are being hosted by the St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Region near Ottawa, on August 26-29. Central Ontario's team will be announced closer to those dates.
At the highest level for this show, First Level, the Test 1 winner was Johanna McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club riding Millgate Braveheart. Second place went to Julia McGill of the Durham Pony Club aboard D'Artagnan, with Laura Parliament of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club third on Star. Only Mlles McKeen and McGill attempted Test 2, with Ms. McKeen again first and Ms. McGill again second.
Jennifer McKeen of Oshawa was the winner of the Training Level Test 4 class riding Colwyn Tegan. Second place went to Katlyn Hewson of the Victoria Pony Club on Without a Trace, and Laura Parliament was third (in dressage shows, a horse/rider combination may enter any two consecutive classes, plus freestyle classes). Katlyn Hewson won the Training Test 3 class, with Jennifer McKeen second and Samantha MacDonald of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club third on Heart of Gold.
The Pre-Training Test 1 winner was Rachel Welsh of the Oshawa Pony Club riding Pippi. Andrea McGill of the Durham Pony Club was second on Phoenix Rising, and third place went to Emma Goodman of the Whitchurch Pony Club on Starbucks Capuccino. In the Pre-Training Test 2 class, Christine Oldridge of the Victoria Pony Club took the honours aboard Snow Pony Jack Pine, with another Victoria rider, Kylie Figueira, second riding Baltimore. Rachel Welsh and Pippi finished third.
Kathleen Wood of the Victoria Pony Club won the Starter Test 1 class on Haverwood's Peanut. Second place went to Erin Thompson of Oshawa riding Lily, and Emily Lindsay of the Simcoe Pony Club took third spot riding Tarragon. In the Starter Test 2 competition, the winner was Jodi Hunsley of Durham on Kenny, with Kathryn Martin of Simcoe second aboard Monty, and Emily Lindsay again third on Tarragon.
Christine Oldridge won the Entry Test 1, this time riding Elphin Birdsong. Rebecca Adrian of Durham finished second on Nathans Gift, with third place going to Colin Oldridge of Victoria aboard Bandit. In the Entry Test 2 competition, the same entries finished first and second as in Test 1, with Jaimie Figueira of Victoria third on Midnight.
This show offered several freestyle classes, which feature dressage performed to music. In the First Level freestyle, Johanna McKeen and Millgate Braveheart again took first place, and Julia McGill again took second on D'Artagnan. Third place went to Stephanie Rutherford of the Baltimore Hills Pony Club riding Falkenfels. Jessie Ball of Victoria took top spot in the Training freestyle riding Corona's Kiowa. Katelyn Powell and Sundance of the Durham Pony Club were second, with third place going to Jennifer McKeen and Colwyn Tegan. Kaylin Nauta of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club won the Starter Freestyle riding Solo Spirit, with Caitlin Laing of Durham second on Family Ties (all others eliminated). The Uxbridge-Scugog team of Samantha MacDonald on Heart of Gold and Whitney Brennan on Karoo won the Training Pas de Deux.
