Kawartha Pony Club Hosts Beth Underhill Jumper Clinic

The local Kawartha Pony Club will host a show jumping clinic with Grand Prix rider Beth Underhill, to be held at the Saddlewood Equestrian Centre near Bethany, Ontario on Sunday, April 21. The clinic is open to Pony Club members in good standing, with previous show jumping experience (able to ride a course with jumps at least two feet high).

This is a unique opportunity for young riders to learn from one of Canada's best known and most accomplished show jumpers. Beth Underhill has represented her country in international competition many times aboard such famous mounts as Monopoly and Altair. A member of the Canadian Equestrian Team since 1990, she has competed in the Olympics, the Pan-American Games, the World Championships and many Nations Cup competitions.

Pony Clubbers may sign up for 90 minute lessons, with four to six riders of comparable experience in each group session.

Pony Club is an international organization to promote riding and horsemanship skills among young people up to 21 years old. Many of Canada's international show jumpers got their starts in Pony Club. Show jumping is the most familiar Pony Club activity to most spectators because it attracts media coverage at Ms Underhill's level, but Pony Club also offers competition in dressage, mounted games, rallies (including dressage, cross-country jumping and stadium jumping), tetrathlon (including shooting, swimming, cross-country jumping, stadium jumping, and cross-country running by the riders) as well as "academic" competition in quiz format. Above all, the objective of Pony Club competition is for young people to have safe fun in horse-related activities.

The Saddlewood Equestrian Centre is 5 km north of Bethany on County Road 38, opposite Devil's Elbow. Spectators are welcome to audit the lessons without admission charge, BUT THIS INVITATION IS LIMITED TO PONY CLUBBERS ONLY. Kawartha Pony Club would like to say a special "Thank You" to Saddlewood for donating its property for the day.
