Lessons

Group riding lessons occur, weather permitting, March to June, and September to November on a weekly basis. Lesson fees may vary, but are generally $18 for each lesson. Members are also given the opportunity to attend specially arranged clinics and camps where qualified instructors provide instruction in specialized disciplines of riding. Clinics for each discipline listed below are arranged for members to participate. Lessons are provided by certified instructors who specialize in these particular areas. Attendance is not mandatory.

Dressage - is set movements consisting of basic schooling exercises that involve changes of pace and direction. Dressage tests are designed to show what degree of obedience the horse has achieved. Dressage is commonly known as flat work.

Show Jumping - is held in either an indoor or outdoor ring or arena. The various styles of jumps test the horses' ability to clear heights, to jump breadth as well as height, and to change direction, often quickly. Contestants receive penalties for knocking down fences or refusing jumps.

Cross Country - is an endurance test for both horse and rider. Competitors must complete a lengthy course across fields and through forested trails within a set time limit which includes all manner of strange and immovable objects. There is usually a section of water that the horse must jump into, as well as wide ditches to jump over. If a horse hits or kicks a jump obstacle, it does not break away as in show jumping. Competitors receive penalties for jump refusals, completing the course too fast, or too slow, or going off course. Stable Management lessons are offered from November to March. Attendance is mandatory for riders to participate in events and to be eligible to be tested for Pony Club levels.
