We are searching for a new instructor!

Cochrane Pony Club is looking for an extra instructor, to provide riding and stable management lessons during our summer season, on Wednesday nights. If you are interested in teaching our kids please send an email to Dale Palmer.

Here you can find more information on what your role would be.

We have started a new show jumping series!

We had a lot of fun organizing a Schooling Show Jumping Series last year. This year we will repeat this series. We invite all pony club members to join us in a friendly competition at the Cochrane Agricultural Society.

Our first two shows have been completed. We hope everybody enjoyed it and we're looking forward to seeing you in the last show. If you are curious how you are doing for the High Points Prize that will be awarded at the end of the series, here are the scores for the March and April show: High Points Results.

The date for our last show is:

  • Saturday May 19, 2012

  • We will have six different divisions, from trot poles to 2'9" and it will be a great opportunity to get ready for the show jumping season.

We do encourage our younger and beginning riders to come out and do the trot plot division, no experience necessary and you're allowed on a lead line. Join us for your first competition experience!
Of course we also hope to see all our other riders back as well!

For more information and to enter the show you can download the prizelist here.

    Cochrane Pony Club

Cochrane ponyclub is a branch of the Canadian Ponyclub, region South Alberta.

We are also a usergroup at the Cochrane & District Agricultural Society.
Our club meets at the Pony Club Grounds on the Cochrane & District Agricultural Society lands north-west of Cochrane.

From May until October our mounted meetings are held on Wednesday evenings providing instruction for our members so that they may work with their own mounts in a variety of disciplines, mostly geared towards three-day eventing (dressage, cross country and stadium jumping).
Each member is assigned to a riding group based on his/her riding level.
As a part of these meeting we also organize stable management sessions. Stable management encompasses everything you need to know to be able to take good care of your horse or pony. This can include, among other subjects, grooming, mucking out, saddlery and care of the horse.

An active winter education program is also part of the Cochrane calendar.
From November to April, we ride indoors at the adjacent Agricultural Society arena.
The winter meetings feature presentations by guest lecturers and the opportunity to learn from a variety of experienced equine instructors about horsemanship, safety & first aid.

Field trips may be organized to provide information that will assist our riders in their development.
In the past we have had visits to stables, veterinary centres, and training facilities.

Cochrane has been very well represented in all Regional disciplines and we have had representatives participate at the National and International levels.
