ANR PPG Report: August 2006

Well the PPG season is at an end and 2006 was another busy year for games. Our Regional Competition was held in Thorsby at the end of July. We had a great turnout with 4 A teams, 3 B teams, 2 C teams and 3 Masters teams participating. The weather was the same as usual. Wet. Fortunately Thorsby has the inside arena and we all carried on regardless of the rain and mud.

Our International Candidates Competition also ran its last phase during the weekend. We had six candidates running, Katie Macbeth, Kylee Mitchell, and Jocelyn Skelton from Strathcona, Karl Grundke from St. Anne, Michelle Pettitt from Pembina River and Shelby Masse from Garden Valley. The competition was fierce this year with six candidates trying out for the two places but in the end Karl and Michelle went forward to represent Alberta North in their bid to win a place on Team Canada who will play in Kentucky in 2007. In August our winning A and Masters Division teams went forward to their respective National competitions. The National A competition took place in Ontario and the Masters competition took place in Vancouver. The Mohicans came in second in their competition and I have yet to hear how the A team fared. Next year ANR will be hosting the National A competition so 2007 will be busy too!

Many many thanks to all the parent volunteers for helping out so much throughout the year. See you all at the Awards Night in the fall.

Respectfully submitted:
Jane Goodliffe, ANR PPG Chair.
